    Nina Bernstein, one of the country's best immigration reporters, has a front page story in this morning's Times regarding 30 survivors of the January Haiti earthquake who were airlifted by Marines to the United States and are now sitting in detentions centers in Florida. According to the Times, these individuals were pulled from the rubble and were seeking food, safety or medical care at the airport in Port-au-Prince. When aftershocks struck, the Marines quickly evacuated people via military transports and did not bother with immigration processing.     For form I-130

    Date authorized stay expired, or will expire, as shown on Form I-94 or I-95?

    There is no expiry date in his I-94. What should I write? Is it like D/S (F1)?

    Name and address of present employer (if any) for my husband.

    Should I write Graduate Student or leave it blank?

    Your relative is in the United States and will apply for adjustment of status to that of a lawful permanent resident at the USCIS office in:

    Can I write San Diego? I found it only needs 4 months to complete it. We are in Los Angeles now.

    My understanding is, you don't have to. AOS is a valid status until there is a yes or no decision on your 485 applicaiton from USCIS.

    Sure doesn't sound right. I'd suggest some controlled tests, using a gray card (or even a white card). Check the actual color with your favorite editor (Photoshop, etc). It might be your monitor calibration, too.

    At this point you don't really know if white balance WAS correct and, after the update, it's wrong - or vice versa.

    Hi
    I transferred my H1 to new employer and need to go for visa stamping.
    I have a couple of qustions.

    1.I belong to south india and my regional consulate is chennai.Can I go for calcutta consulat as I heard chennai consulate has delays in vsa processing.In such case,can I have to show any emergency proof?

    2.My salary is 30k more than whatever is mentioned in petition.will it be a problem?

    3.I recently heard that consulate officer is asking for contact agreement between employer and client.But in my case I have some addition layer B in between my employer A and client.So how can I provide letter.Do I need to show 2 letters.From my employer A to layer B and layer B to client?

    The Congressional Hispanic Caucus has sent a letter to the President asking him to terminate the controversial 287(g) program that allows local police to enforce immigration laws on behalf of the Department of Homeland Security. The CHC expressed its concerns about allegations of serious civil rights violations against Hispanics as well as recent reports of poor oversight in the program. The National Council of La Raza, the country's largest Latino civil rights organization praised the letter.

    I have seen references that if there are different I-140 apps approved per family, there is a possibility of going for the 485 stage separately. Also I have seen posts stating that one can go for AOS and the other for CP.

    How do you communicate to USCIS that for one you are doing AOS and the other you are doing CP, with reference to the 485 stage? When does this really happen?

    The perjury trial of I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby goes to the jury this week. The case speaks to several issues -- how the Bush administration deals with critics of the war in Iraq, and the games that Washington's reporters and politicians play with each other. As far as the jury is concerned, however, the case is about only one thing: lying.

    One particularly well-qualified witness on this subject was not called by either the prosecution or the defense, so today we cross-examine Robert Feldman ourselves. Feldman is a social psychologist at the University of Massachusetts who studies lying in everyday life, and his findings are just the kind of thing that Libby's lawyers could have pounced on.

    Feldman's experiments show that stern-faced judicial proceedings about perjury are as remote from the realities of human behavior as President Bush is from the Nobel Peace Prize. For one thing, lying plays a more complex role in human relationships than the black-and-white legal view recognizes. It is also so commonplace in everyday life that putting people on trial for lying is somewhat like putting them on trial for breathing.

    Experiments have found that ordinary people tell about two lies every 10 minutes, with some people getting in as many as a dozen falsehoods in that period. More interestingly -- and Libby might see this as the silver lining if he is found guilty -- Feldman also found that liars tend to be more popular than honest people. (Ever notice how popular politicians somehow change their minds on controversial issues such as the war in Iraq at the exact moment that public opinion on those issues changes?)

    I have an H1B approval from USCIS, and I am trying to go to Canada for the initial visa stamping. But then i have a problem. I initially entered the country as a visitor, and married a citizen, but only after my I-94 had expired for about a week. (My petition is still pending. The company I am working for could not wait for my greencard, since its already been years since I started that process, so they went ahead and applied for the H1B visa for me). I heard that it is a problem to do the visa stamping in Canada if you have been out of status before. Is it advisable to go to Canada for the visa stamping?

    I have an approved I 140 by my previous employer from 2007. (EB2I)
    They would like to employ me again but in a higher position - they are doing the labor certification and I 140 process all ovver again.(EB2I)

    Lawyer suggested that we apply for transferring PD after the second I 140 gets approved, instead of doing it at the time of applying for second I 140.

    Is there any risk or benefit involved in either approach

    Here's another article discussing the embarrassment that is CNN's Lou Dobbs Tonight. I don't need to elaborate on that, but the more interesting part of this article is a discussion of why CNN is so reluctant to fire him. Apparently, it's more fear of Dobbs going to Fox and worry about Dobbs using his radio show to bash CNN. But is this really so valid? Dobbs' ratings are down 20% this year. Fired anchors jump networks all the time. Some do better at their new digs. Others fade in to further obscurity. And CNN is bashed daily both on Fox...
