The Los Angeles City Council has approved a measure barring city workers for traveling to Arizona on official business and also banning the city from contracting with Arizona businesses. Some contracts for key infrastructure items are not affected, but the LA Times estimates that the vote will cost Arizona upwards of $8 million per year. The biggest contracts not affected are those involving the airport and sea port. But the civilian panels overseeing them are considering canceling contracts worth $26 million. On Monday, Boulder, Colorado will vote on a similar measure. San Jose votes next month.

Hi all,
My ETA case in online status shows "DATA REVIEW" for the past 5 months, my PD Aug 04/RIR/EB2 is with Dallas BPEC.Initially the status was closed, and then opened. After 5 months of reopening it still says 'Data review' .Is there some thing wrong or should I talk to my lawyer.
Some of my friends who applied that time have their status 'in process' or even 'certified' .Any experience like this or will that go to certified from here directly or to "in process" first. How long it can be in each of these statuses.
Any ideas appreciated please!

My sister, as part of submitting documents for her fiance visa application, recently got a birth certificate. However, it doesn't have her name on it. Odd as it sounds, the municipality says that this is common practice. It just has the name of the parents.

Guys, applied recently for EAD and its pending and 180 days has not passed. I am planning to open a part time business. Does anyone know if its ok to start a part time business before the EAD gets approved ? Any insights will be appreciated.

I saw that my 485 status was updated twice.
FP done on - Oct 24, 485 LUD was 24 Oct.
Nov 3 - one more LUD on 485 app for me and spouse.
: BEC LC cleared on June 21, PD march 2001, I 140 + 485 filed on July 2 for me and spouse.
What do you make out of the two LUDs in less than 2 weeks ?.
My I 140 is still pending. (EB2 Category)

Here is my situation. greatly aprecite if you could give some suggestions.
I am presently on Non-cap H1b(which is not counted under cap). I am planning to file for H1b thru an employer in april under MS quota with a start date of octber 2008.
My concerns are...
1. How should the new employer file H1b so that I can join at my wish after oct 2008...??
2. My present H1b is valid untill 2010. SHould I be in US while filing and untill my new H1b is approved..??? I ahve plans of visisitng india in March/aprial. So wondering If i need to visit and be back before april or is it ok to travel while my new H1b is filed using the presnet i-94..?? that is trvelling sometime In april/May..???

My H1-B visa ended on December 31, 2009. I applied for a change of status to F1 visa on December 21st, 2009 towards the Spring 2010 (Jan 2010) semester. I received an RFE stating that I need to send a new I-20 for a valid future semester.
Assuming this new I-20 is for Summer 2010 (May 2010), my question is as follows - If my change of status to F1 gets approved and my semester starts 2 months later, am I allowed to legally stay in the country?
